Dear Training Providers,
The forthcoming introduction of the Helideck Operations Initial Training (7040) Standard will result in the
removal of HLO Initial Training (7018) and HDA Initial Training (7019) standards. To ensure a smooth
transition for Training Providers, the introduction of this new standard requires a standardised and
structured approach globally. To allow the smooth transition of this new standard, OPITO must ensure
that a suitable level of quality assurance is in place prior to its implementation.
The Modules and Elements contained in the Training Programmes and Learning Outcomes for Helideck
Operations Initial Training (7040), HLO Initial Training (7018) and HDA Initial Training (7019) have been
cross mapped and it has been agreed that if you hold approval for either HLO initial/HDA initial or both
that a reduced desktop submission will be accepted in order to gain approval.
This reduced desktop submission includes information for OPITO Guide to Approval Sections 4.3 and 4.4
and is to include:
Helideck Operations Initial Training Assessment checklist
Helideck Operations Initial Training Theory Lesson plans
Helideck Operations Initial Training Practical Exercise plans
Helideck Operations Initial Training Course Timetable
The cost for the above desktop review will be a set cost of ?900 + VAT(where applicable).
Once the above information has been reviewed and has sufficiently met the requirements of the OPITO
Guide to Approval and Helideck Operations Initial Training (7040) standard, formal approval for the
Helideck Operations Initial Training (7040) will be awarded. Any approval granted will only be valid when
the Helideck Operations Initial Training (7040) Standard is officially implemented.
OPITO will ensure that sufficient resource is available internally to prioritise the review of this information
to ensure all training providers that decide to apply for approval are approved prior to the date of
implementation of the Helideck Operations Initial Training (7040) of 1st of January 2018.
If you decide that approval for Helideck Operations Initial Training (7040) Standard is not required at this
time, please be aware that after the 1/1/18 the full OPITO approvals process and cost will be applied.
