4.3.1.2.1 Barge Master:All Masters shall be certificated to STCW Regulation II/2; on application to COMPANY, certification to Regulation II/3 may be accepted subject to an acceptable standard of training and experience is demonstrated on a case by case basis.
Masters shall have a minimum of two years’ experience in the rank unless promoted from within in which case the candidate must have had a Master’s license for a minimum of two years and two years’ experience a Chief Officer.
Candidates for Master should have prior experience of work on an ACV.All Masters shall have undergone an ISF Marlins English Language Test for Seafarers, the score of which should not be less than 80%; all candidates for employment as Master may be subject to a telephone interview during which their spoken English will be evaluated. COMPANY’s decision on employment of any candidate shall be final.4.3.1.2.2
Chief Engineer:Chief Engineers shall be certificated to STCW Regulation III/2; on application to COMPANY, certification to Regulation III/3 may be accepted subject to an acceptable standard of training and experience is demonstrated on a case by case basis.Chief Engineers shall have a minimum of two years’ experience in the rank unless promoted from within in which case the candidate must have had a Chief Engineer’s license as above for a minimum of two years and two years’ experience as Second Engineer. Chief Engineer candidates should have prior experience of work on an ACV in a senior capacity.Chief Engineers should have a minimum of two years’ experience on high speed marine diesel engines (i.e. 1,500 rpm or greater); in the absence of experience on high speed engines, the candidate shall have a minimum of two years’ experience on medium speed engines (circa 720 rpm).Chief Engineers shall have OEM technical training for the operation, repair and maintenance of the following equipment:1 All onboard engine types (including control systems)2 All onboard transmission systems3 Ducted fan control systems (including rudders)4 Marine propulsion control systems5 Monitoring and alarm systems6 Planned maintenance systemsAll Chief Engineers shall have undergone an ISF Marlins English Language Test for Seafarers, the score of which should not be less than 70%; all candidates for employment as Chief Engineer may be subject to a telephone interview during which their spoken English will be evaluated. They can be categorized into two key groups albeit it is possible to combine the roles into one, as we do with some of our trainers within GHL; pilots and engineers. PILOTS Hovercraft have been traditionally operated by “pilots” albeit the skills and training required is not as intensive of difficult as for an aeroplane or helicopter. All of our hovercraft can be successfully operated by one pilot, who can act as both a pilot and a navigator; however, most of our customers tend to operate with a crew of 2, one being a commander, while the other is a navigator.
