Chief Mate – Gulf of Mexico – 6th Generation Drillship
The Chief Mate is the Master’s deputy aboard the drillship they assist the Master in exercising effective control over the rig’s marine operations with safety of personnel, maintenance of rig equipment, and protection of the environment.
PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS:
U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.
Three years of college and three (3) years of experience in the maritime industry with progressively more responsible experience.
Chief Mate (Unlimited) foreign going certificate.
Valid Dynamic Positioning certificate from recognized authority.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations & Maintenance:
Main responsibility is the stability of the rig, communicates with the Chief Engineer regarding the disposition, loading, ordering and use of fuel, potable, and drill water.
Ensures the rig conforms to local and international laws relating the vessel’s operation and strictly complies with current pollution regulations.
Oversees the maintenance of deck, firefighting, and life-saving equipment.
Ensures the vessel is seaworthy at all time and maintained and operated in accordance with guidelines in the marine operations manual.
Maintains the watertight integrity of the vessel, loading and storage of consumables, securing of supply vessels during resupply operations.
Assists the vessel master in maintaining the vessel’s logbook, maintenance reports, and other vessel documents.
Assist the vessel master during rig moves and voyage planning.
Relieves on dynamic positioning console and mentors senior dynamic positioning operator for promotion to Chief Mate position.
QHSE:
Inspect, test, and maintain all lifesaving equipment and firefighting appliances and ensure their readiness for immediate use when required.
Ensure compliance with environmental protection requirements as specified by regulatory bodies and authorities.
Ensure that the company health, safety, and environment policies and other programs are communicated to and understood by all rig personnel.
Actively participate in safety, departmental, pre-tour, and in the safety management systems.
Ensure new arrivals receive a full safety briefing and induction on the rig.
Assist the vessel master in all emergency situations and emergency protection responses.
Assist the vessel master in coordinating weekly emergency drills along with monitoring and evaluation of the deck crew responses.
Perform all emergency duties as per designation on the station bill.
