All languages except Russian / Management level course
« : Июнь 10, 2019, 11:38:44 pm »
Hello to everyone,

Question - what is the easiest way to obtain valid and approved second engineer unlimited license for someone who has done only EOOW operational level course? I'm Nautical College graduate with years of experience as junior engineer and now I'm stuck on my career ladder. I don't see myself going to Maritime Academy to study again for few years. Is there any other options?

PM if anyone can recommend something.
Thanks

Ex crew are welcome

What I heard, the ex-crew (de facto present, as they are still onboard) didn't have any idea that there will be change of crew and flag - they found out it out thanks to this forum post.

Around 20 people, half of them officers and taking into account that under Estonian flag the net salary makes up only 60% of the salary fund then the total cost for the company is rather high even with the winter season salaries.

They should be on shore power.

Like on former Tallink high speed ferries with MTU's,  where service engineers from shore were already like full time crew members?

Even if you don't have to do major maintenace, you still have lot of minor, everyday stuff that seems more complicated than on any other similar powered inline engine. Maybe I'm paranoid but my previous experience  with high-revving engines showed me that sooner or later things start to fly and even if you don't have to fix it yourself, it is terrible when you have deal with things all the time.

And when taking account all this corruption scandal, it seems just too suspicious to be a coincidence that the persons in charge of this project didn't even consider W?rtsila offer, they just answered there is no point to send your price offer as you can't beat the one made by the company who sold the MTU's (and also got the contract for the build/yard survey). :sarcastic:

Good luck to future chief and motorman, two 12-cylinder and two 16-cylinder MTU high speed engines will be engineers nightmare.

One of my old colleagues told that letter from employer will be enough. His declaration was reviewed and they asked for flight tickets or proof from employer. In his case, the employer was kind enough to give him a letter that stated he was onboard more than actually, so he got away from paying.

Taxation of seafarers in Estonia is really frustrating.

As what I understand, but not 100% sure, if you are outside from Estonia more than 183 days (from the day of arriving to other country til departing it ) and you pay already income tax to UK (even if they later refund this), then you are not obliged to pay in Estonia. This also goes for other flags, you are free from paying tax in Estonia if you pay it already to somewhere else and you are working more than 183 days.

Incase you are less than 183 days outside from country for work, then your tax % will depend how much you are paying to UK, for example, if you pay 7% to UK, then in Estonia you have to pay remaining 13%. :violent1:

I have friend who is working onboard UK vessel, he is paying all his taxes to UK and later they refund it - on some circumstances the taxation is 0% for seafarers and they get it back, don't know the details, you have to look it up yourself. He declares his incomes in Estonia and because he is away more than 183 days, he doesn't have to pay nothing in Estonia.

And yes, if you are obliged to pay, then you do it from your brutto salary. If you pay any other taxes, pension or social tax etc. like I do on Norwegian flagged vessel, then you can write them do your declaration and it will be subtracted before they calculate the amount you need to pay.

If anyone has first hand experience, they can contribute.

Any Estonian residents who are working on NIS/NOR flagged vessel? Heard that Norway is sharing all your salary information with the Estonian tax authority?

Probably this vacancy is onboard Brage Trader or Brage Supplier. Built in India and with a small engine department - Chief, second, third and ETO. W?rtsila 20 engines and Rolls-Royce Azimuth thruster propulsion.
Company is Simon Mokster, decent one. One and a half years ago the contract dynamics and salary was same, there should be small deduction because of the NIS flag.

It seems to be to strange that a forum user who isn't involved with Botnica has so much information about the vessel and the persons working onboard?

The last 2nd engineer who left, was "русского паренька с нормальным офшорным опытом".

Diluting crew with other nationals won't change anything as it has been done already. And miraculously, "national patriots" aren't the only ones who has left TS Shipping.

Russia Today wrote that sanctions won't affect contracts that have been already signed. Same thing with the France-Russian Mistral deal.

How are living conditions? Internet, tv, gym? I heard that Captain and Chief Engineer are Norwegians, how is working with them? Are there many problems with the ship? It is only year old, so I assume that everything should be working fine.

Regards

Hey all

Is there somebody in this forum who has been working for Simon Mokster? I was offered 3rd engineer position onboard Brage Trader, PSV DP2, would be good if I could get some additional information about the vessel or company before making my decision.
